There are two regular games left in the junior high season. They will play Appleton City at home next Tuesday and then have a week to prepare for the last game of the season against the rival Adrian Blackhawks.
Where would you go to see a contest that involved spitting gummy bears for distance, drinking from a calf bottle, and other similar entertaining challenges. FFA Barn Warming, of course!
This last Saturday night the Rich Hill FFA hosted the annual Barn Warming dance and royalty contest with the assistance of the FFA Booster Club. There is a traditional style vote among the FFA members for a queen and king, a collection from the student body and family in the form of loose change, and then the important contests among the candidates on Barn Warming night.
Freshmen candidates this year were Jozelynn West and Jamison Ogburn. Sophomores were Kiersten Baze and Daniel Brown. juniors were Robin Schapeler and John Scrivener. Senior candidates were Shelby Gould and Trevor Delozier.
Candidates started the evening with an obstacle course for time. Boys had to peddle through a straw bale course blindfolded while the girls gave directions. Next up the girls had to saw through a hedge post and as soon as they finished the boys had to suck down a tasty concoction from a calf bottle. They then raced to the other end on board planks with the assistance of a couple classmates to dig through a tub of field corn in search of a “candy corn”. After these races for time it was time to show their spitting skills with some giant gummy bears. Last contest of the night was a feat of strength and skill as they tossed a straw bale as far as they could.
Candidates then changed as the winners were determined. The winner of Barn Warming queen this was year was junior candidate Robin Schapeler who was crowned by last year’s queen Allison Taylor. The king also received his cowboy hat from a fellow classmate as Trevor Delozier was capped by fellow senior Riley Cameron.
Following the games was a dance until 11:00 pm.
