A full night of contests took place last Friday night in the Rich Hill gym. The Archie Whirlwinds came to town to start the evening with a JV girls game. Due to a long break during the Christmas break the girls started out pretty slow having trouble getting their offense going and trailed at the end of the first quarter 6-2. As there were only going be two quarters for the girls, time was of the essence. The 2nd quarter started out again slowly and the girls never could really get on track. After taking a time out by Coach Smith the girls changed to a man to man defense and started pressuring the ball causing turnovers and converting them in points the girls closed the gap. With about 1 minute left the girls finally took the lead by one and with good defense were about hold off the Whirlwinds and win the game 14-13. The leading scorer for the Tigers were Jenn Doty with 5 and Taylor Briscoe 4.
In the second game of the evening the JV boys took the floor and also started the game at a slow pace even though leading 6-4 at the quarter the boys showed signs of a long lay-off. The second quarter wasn’t much better with cold shooting and poor defense found the JV trailing at the half 8-10. After some half-time adjustments the players started running a solid offensive plans with good ball movement and nice shoot selection were able to regain the lead and create some space between them and the Whirlwind a lead 33-17 at the end of the third quarter. The boys were able to maintain their lead and all players got at least some playing time before the end of te evening. The final score was the Tigers 43 Archie 28. The leading scorers for the JV Tigers was Alec Gray with 14, Dalton Smarr with 8 and Dustin Gray with 6

Coach Morgan had commented that the Ladies had had a good couple of days of practice and was hoping for a good game. The Lady Tigers came out with different attitude and from the opening tip were determined to play hard. The opening quarter saw Archie put on a good press and the girls played with confidence and found the opening and lead at the end of the first 10-9. After trading buckets the second frame the Lady Tigers trailed 20-19 at the half. The second half saw the Lady TIgers turn up the defensive press, improve on their rebounding and take good shoots and took the lead going into the fourth quarter 31-24. The determination of the team lead the Tigers to an even scoring 4th quarter and a victory of 37-30. It was a good victory for the girls who play again on Monday night in the A.C. tourney against Sheldon in the first round contest
