The final games in the Archie Tournament were played over the weekend. The Lady Tigers travel to Archie on Friday night to complete their part of the Archie tournament where they met the Holden Lady Eagles for the consolation game. In the first quarter the girls came out pressing and trying to pressure the Eagles and took a 13-4 advantage after one. In the second quarter it looked like fatigue might take it toll as the Lady Tigers came out much slower which allowed the Eagles to get back into the game and at half the Tigers only led18-15. After some half time adjustments the Tigers seemed to play with much more energy and got their offense rolling again to take 36-23 comfortable lead into the fourth period. The Lady Eagles proved that they were not going to go quietly and started bombing away from long range. In the final two minutes the Tigers were able to tighten up there defense and hit a couple of important free throws and hold off the Holden girls to win 43-40. The team felt that they had accomplished a good finish to the week and helped their seeding for district later this month. Junior, Allison Taylor was named to the all-tournament team.
The boys played Saturday night in the championship game against K.C. Metro. The boys kept the game close throughout the night but were not able to get the win. Coach Ryan Rapp said, “These are they type of games you want your team to play. Metro is a very good team with size and athleticism. We fought hard and did some things very well. Unfortunately we missed some free throws at bad times and did not get stops on defense when we needed them. Hopefully we can build from this game.”
Scoring for the boys were Bryant Courter with 22, Blain Robb, Jacob Thompson, and Dylan Smarr with 12 each, Cole Heckadon with 6, and Jacob Mumma with 4. Juniors Blaine Robb and Bryant Courter were named to the all-tournament team.
