Monday Night Basketball vs. Prairie View

The Tigers met Prairie View Kansas for a full slate of games last night starting with the JV girls. After coming off an almost month lay off of games for the girls things started out a little slow with the girls trying to learn to work again under game conditions as group. The JV girls found themselves trailing at the end of the first quarter 4-7. Some defensive adjustments were made going into the second quarter and the girls took the lead 11-10 at half time. During the break Coach Smith changed the offense a little and in the third quarter the girls got into a rhythm and created a 19-13 lead going into the final frame. The two teams traded points for the quarter and the girls took the victory 25-18. Leading scorers were Kylann Tourtillot ,Jen Doty and Taylor Briscoe all with 6 points.

In the second contest of the evening the JV  boys never really got on track and struggled most of the evening. After the first quarter the score was 3-8. In the second frame the boys were able to close the gap and trailed at the half 9-10. A scoring drought set in the third quarter and the boys were unable to score and found themselves down 9-18 going into the fourth. The lid seemed to stay on the basket as Prairie View held the JV boys to only 4 second half points and the Tigers lost the game 28-13. The Leading scorer for the JV was Alec Gray with 4 points.
In the third game of the evening the Lady Tigers played their 4th game in seven days and at first it looked like the toll of that number of games would catch up with them. The girls seemed to have few shots drop for them but took the early lead 8-6. In the second quarter the girls never really could find their stride and found themselves trailing at the half 14-15. The third quarter with a little better defense and some timely shots falling the girls were able to keep pace with the Lady Bisons and found themselves tied at the end of three, 25-25. In the fourth quarter both teams tried to take charge but never could shake the other and battled down to the last second with the Lady Tigers prevailing in the contest, 33-31. It wasn’t the prettiest win for the Ladies but it was a hard fought win. The girls are now 8-11 and their next contest will be Tuesday night at Bronaugh. The leading scorers for the Lady Tigers were Allie Taylor with 14, Jordann Wheatley 11 and Taylor Brooks with 6

The Varsity Boys got back on track last night with 65-49 victory over the Prairie View Buffalos. Hot shooting from the Tigers helped lead them to a 20-16 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The second quarter saw the Tigers get into some foul trouble which allowed the bench players to play some valuable minutes for the team. Both teams scored 13 points during the quarter, leaving the halftime score at 33-29. During the second half the Tigers extended their lead with unselfish play on the offensive end and an aggressive trapping defense. The Tigers extended their lead by 9 points in the 3rd quarter and by another 3 in the 4th.

The Varsity Boys record is now 17-3. Their next game is Friday vs. Midway.
