Tigers at Lakeland

The Tigers travel to Lakeland for trio of games Friday night starting with the Varsity girls game. The Lady Tigers came out really sluggish and were matched by the Lady Vikings with neither team able to get an kind of rhythm going and were tied 5-5 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter really didn’t improve much for Rich Hill as scoring and defense couldn’t find their way and Lakeland lead 21-13. The third quarter proved to be the quarter where the girls came to life and after being down 8 points at the start of the quarter they found themselves up by one point with only a minute gone in the third period. With much better offense and greatly improved defense the team found their stride and even with foul trouble were able to expand their lead and go into the final frame in control 35-29. In the fourth quarter the girls got key defensive stops and and were able to makes some critical free throws and able to close the Vikings out to win 48-41. The leading scorers for the Lady Tigers were Allie Taylor with 17 and Robin Scapeler with 15. The next game for the Lady Tigers will be at home on Senior night on Wednesday against the Osceola Indians starting at 5 pm with JV girls.

In the second game of the evening the JV boys took the court to face their counterparts from Lakeland. The JV boys came out flat and never got going in the first quarter and found themselves trailing 13- 4. The second quarter the boys didn’t fair much better and after trying several different combinations off the bench found themselves trailing 10-27. During the halftime break the team made several adjustments and came out refocused and ready to play and play they did with much more defensive intensity and a more disciplined offense were able to cut into a the large Viking lead and at the end of three the score was Lakeland 34-27. The JV boys were able to finally cut the lead and tie it at 34-34 but some costly turnovers hurt them and found themselves down by 8 with a little less than two minutes remaining. The found another ability to dig down deep and close the gap to 42-45 with six seconds left and worked for the last second trey but it just missed it’s mark and the Tigers lost 42-45. The leading scorers for the Tigers were Dalton Smarr with 10, Austin Pritchett with 7, Zeke Doty 5, Tyler Hood and Brendon Ephland with 4 each, and Dalen Lewis, Wyatt Foster, and Wyatt Hammett with 2. The boys next play on Wednesday night with a half game against Osceola.
The junior varsity game was followed by the varsity boys who were able to put another mark in the win column at the end of the evening.
Because Osceola was out of school today (2/17/15) because of snow the game scheduled to be played at Rich Hill tonight has been postponed until tomorrow. (Wednesday, February 18th)  This last home game of the season will also be senior night for several members of our basketball squads.
