It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon for a run or walk through town for a good cause. The Run For Cover 5K was organized by seniors Madison Wheatley, Michaela Norbury, Haley Klinksick, Jordann Wheatley, and Jacob Thompson.
Participants met in front of the FEMA safe room project to check-in prior to the beginning of the race. While there were many conflicts that kept some registered people away there was a total of 75 who were able to participate in the event. The course took runners around the grade school and high school, over to the old high school and around the track, down Park Street, through the circle park and back to the dome.
Sam Hardin was the first to cross the adult to cross the finish line with a time of 21.19. Amber Yohe was in second with 22.48 and Hallie Schooley in third with 23.07. Lane Hardin was number one in the 12 and under group with a time of 26.07.
The group would like to thank everyone who made a donation or participated in the race. This includes the members of the community on their golf cart brigade who helped with crossing Walnut Street and handing out a cold bottle of water. (Water was provided by Sonic of Butler). Thanks to everyone’s generosity the effort of this group of seniors was able to make a donation of $2,500.00 to the building project.
