Rich Hill students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade were part of an assembly honoring area veterans today. Teachers Mrs. Gretchen Wills and Mrs. Amberly Phelps facilitate the organization of this annual event.
Senior and FFA President Breanna Buesing opened the assembly by welcoming guests. Fellow senior and FFA Vice President presented the US Flag followed by the singing of the Star Spangled Banner by senior Erica Diehl. All attendees then joined in giving the Pledge of Allegiance.
The elementary student council members presented each veteran in attendance with an American Flag pin.
The entire elementary chorus then shared “America, Of Thee I Sing” by Mary Donnelly & George Strid. Mrs. Katie Curtwright is the music instructor for vocal students k-12 in the district.
Band students in grades 6-12 played “Amazing Grace”. Mrs. Katie Haines is the band instructor.
The featured speaker was Rich Hill graduate and veteran Josh Entrikin. Josh is a veteran of the US Marines. He shared his feeling on what Veteran’s Day meant to him as a veteran. Josh said that Veteran’s Day was a day for remembering experiences and people from his time of service.
The junior high and high school mixed chorus share “Let Freedom Ring” by Lois Harris.
Following the chorus the lights were lowered for a video presentation of students introducing family members who are veterans. The video will be available for viewing later on RHTIgerTalk. Sixth graders Carlie Wethington, Sydney Bell, Tisha Mackey, Lydia Fox, Katie Tourtillott, Hannah White, and Lexi Fuqua and fifth grader Noelle Abend worked on preparing this video with teacher Mrs. Jennifer Wheatley.
Mrs. Katie Haines played “Taps” as the students exited the assembly in silence.
Following the assembly veterans were treated to a dinner provided by the teachers and staff in the district.
