The Rich Hill girls returned to the court on Tuesday after a disappointing loss in their opening game last Tuesday night against a very good Jasper team. In the first round of the Conference Tournament the girls who were seeded 5th faced the 4th seeded Midway Lady Vikings. The Lady Tigers came out with good pressure and took an early lead only to see it evaporate due to foul trouble and saw the first quarter end in an 11 all tie. With two starters sitting on the bench the Ladies found themselves down by as many as 7 points during the quarter but the bench players were able to hold there own and chip away at the lead providing valuable minutes. At halftime the Lady Tigers were trailing 19-23. After some minor adjustments at halftime the Tigers returned to their pressure defense and were able to close the gap to 31-32 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The fourth quarter saw both team amount good attacks from both defense and offense but need could keep and maintain a lead. Rich Hill was able to squeeze out one more point than Midway in the quarter and was able to set up the last play of the game to get a shot to win the game but it just fell short as the buzzer sounded. In the four minute overtime the girls again applied strong pressure and finally get enough turnovers to get a lead. The lead was achieved by hitting key free throws as the Tigers scored not baskets from the field but did hit 6 of 7 from the line. In the final seconds of the game a big steal sealed the game for Rich HIll as it turned into free throws which gave the Ladies a 3 point lead. Midway took it’s final timeout to set up it’s last shot. As the defense applied pressure the Lady Vikings launched a half court shot that came close as it banked off the board and hit the front of the rim but popped out. The Lady Tigers won the hard fought game 53-50. The win allowed the girls to move on to the second round and where they will face the Adrian Lady Blackhawks on Thursday night at 7:30 in Archie. Overall it was good team effort and the Tiger were excited for the win.
Leading scorers for the Tigers were Allie Taylor with 16, Taylor Coonce with 15 and Robin Schapeler with 13 points.Jennifer Doty came off the bench to score 6.

The Varsity boys also played their first round game of the WEMO Conference Tournament last night and came away with a 75-17 win against the Midway Vikings. The Tigers started off the game by going on a 12-0 run lead by strong defensive pressure. The Tigers continued to pour it on the Vikings and led at the end of the first quarter by a score of 26-4. The second quarter was more of the same as several more Tigers got in on the action and helped build a 51-10 halftime lead. The Tigers bench played most of the second half but continued to play well which helped the Tigers extend their lead throughout the rest of the game. Every player on the Tigers squad scored at least two points. The Tigers will play the Drexel Bobcats on Thursday night at 9:00 P.M. in the semi-final round.
