3rd Place Finish for Varsity Girls

After a tough loss to Adrian in the semi final games the Lady Tigers returned to Archie to take on the Osceola Lady Indians in the third place game. Osceola was seeded third and the Tigers were seeded 5th. The game started out at very fast pace, with both teams playing good offense but seemed to have trouble stopping the other team defensively. At the end of the quarter Osceola lead 17-15. The Tigers found themselves in foul trouble and found valuable time for some of their bench players but lost ground on the scoreboard and were trailing at the half 25-30. The second half didn’t start on the greatest terms for the Lady Tigers with several turnovers and the Indians extending their lead to as many as 11 points mid way through the quarter . Rich HIll buckled down defensively and used a press and change in zone to start chipping away at the lead. Rebounding became one of the biggest factors leading to the turnaround and by the end of the quarter the Lady Tigers had cut into Osceola lead and trailed only by 7. A strong start to the quarter with pressure defense and key offensive possessions allowed the Tigers to get back into the game and with about 30 seconds left Rich Hill took the lead and were able to hold on to win by the final score 50-49. This was a very hard fought game and a team effort to win the 3rd place game.

Leading scorers for the Tigers were Allie Taylor with 21, Taylor Brooks 9 and Taylor Coonce 9. Leading Rebounders were Allie Taylor with 12 and Taylor Brooks with 6.
Monday night the Lady Tiger travel to Holden for a JV and varsity girls game. The night started  the JV Tigers entering their first contest of the season. The game looked more like a game of nerves with both teams turning the ball over and having trouble putting the ball in the basket but Holden seemed to have a little more luck and outscored the Lady Tigers at half time 14-8. The second half the Tigers were able to keep better pace but finished the evening on the losing side 21-28. Leading scorers for the Tigers were Kassi Austin with 9, Kearston Baze, Kylann Tourtillot and Delta Johnson all had 4.
In the Varsity contest both teams started very sluggish and end the 1st quarter with a small 8-7 lead. As in the past few games the Lady Tigers found themselves in early foul trouble with two starters sitting on the bench and found it hard to score and allowed Holden to take a 20-15 half time lead. The Lady Tigers were finally able to get into the flow of things offensively and avoiding foul trouble were able to get into their press and tied the score at  33-33. The 4th quarter the Lady Tigers tightened up their defense and took control of the defensive boards forcing Holden to foul to try and get the ball back. In the end the Tigers hit some big free throws and were able to pull away to win 48-41.
Leading scorers were Robin Schapeler with 13, Allie Taylor with 10 and Taylor Brooks and Taylor Coonce 9 each. Leading rebounders were Taylor Brooks with 9 and Serena Duncan with 6. The Lady Tigers play next on Tuesday night at home against the Liberal Lady Bulldogs.
