High school basketball met up against teams from Liberal last night at home.
This was the second game of the season for the junior varsity boys. The boys lost to the Liberal Bulldogs 42-37. The game went back and forth for the the first 6 minutes with the lead changing sides several times. When the buzzer sounded at the end of the first quarter the Tigers led 10-9. The second quarter ended up being the downfall for the Tigers. They were outscored 15-4 in the quarter and were never able to fully recover. The Tigers fought hard in both the 3rd and 4th quarters and at one point cut the lead to only 3 late in the 4th, but could never catch back up to the Bulldogs. The loss puts the JV Tigers record at 1-1 on the season. Their next game will be Friday night against the Lockwood Tigers. Game time is 5:00 P.M.
The Lady Tigers took to the court for the 4th time in six days against the Liberal Lady Bulldogs. Fatigue was a big concern before the game started but the girls came out with a lot of energy. Starting with their press the early pressure paid big dividends as the girls were able to convert turnovers into easy baskets and took a commanding lead after one, 21-6. The second quarter the momentum turned and Liberal started to chip away at the lead. Turnovers and tired legs allowed Liberal to close the gap a little by half time and the Lead for the Tigers was 28-17. The second half saw Liberal come out with renewed purpose and the Lady Tigers turning the ball over several times allowing the Lady Bulldogs to get back into the game and close the gap to within four points. The early large lead had evaporated and real concern sat in for Rich Hill . The question for the Lady Tigers were could they regroup and hold off the charging Bulldogs. Just before the end of the 3rd quarter the Lady Tigers came to life getting back into their press forcing some key turnovers and converting them back into a double digit lead and regaining a strong lead. The fourth quarter saw the offense get back into the flow of the game and playing better defense were able to pull away and win the game 55-38.

About the half way mark of the quarter the Tigers began to roll led by 3 dunks from Bryant Courter. At the end of the first quarter Rich Hill led by a score of 18-9. Thanks to strong bench play in the second quarter the Tigers were able to extend their lead to 36-14 at the half. After another strong 3rd quarter the Tigers led by 36 going into the 4th quarter. From there the bench closed it out to end the game 59-27.
