The Rich Hill varsity basketball teams traveled to Butler last night for two matches against the Butler Bears.
The evening started with varsity girls action. The girls came out slowly with several turnovers and cold shooting and found themselves behind 15-6 at the end of open quarter. In the second quarter the girls found their offense,scoring 16 points but poor rebounding allowed the Bears to score 17 in this frame and at half time the Lady Tigers trailed 32-22. Starting the second half the Tigers shooting once again went cold and Butler took commanding lead 45-29 going into the fourth quarter. At the start of the quarter the offense came to life and suddenly the Bears lead had dwindled to 4 points. The Lady Tiger were back in the game and looking to take the lead. After a couple of trips down the floor with neither team scoring the Bears forced several turnovers and the Lady Tigers were once again down by double digits. The Lady Bears won the game 55-41. The Lady Tigers Turned the ball over 25 times and shot 14 of 58 from the floor.

The varsity boys took the court following the girl’s game and came away with a 51-49 victory to improve their record to 7-0 on the season. The game consisted of several lead changes throughout the evening which led to some very exciting basketball. The Tigers jumped out early and led by as many as 7 points in the first quarter. However, Butler came back and put together a strong 2nd quarter outscoring the Tigers 17-7 to take a 28-21 lead at the half. The Tigers began to chip away at the Bears lead in the second half, led by an aggressive trapping defense the Tigers tied the game at the end of the 3rd quarter. In the fourth the lead changed again several times with Butler taking a 3 point lead with less than 2 minutes left. The Tigers hit 3 free-throws to tie the game at 49 with only 12 seconds remaining. Out of a timeout the Tigers executed one of their plays perfectly which led to two points by Bryant Courter. Butler had one last chance but a 3 was off the mark at the buzzer. The Tigers next game will be Thursday night at home vs. the Greenfield Wildcats.
