The Lady Tigers completed a successful week at the Appleton City Tournament on Saturday night with a win over the Hume Lady Hornets. Going into the game the girls knew that they would have to play well in order to beat their “down the road” rival. The Hornets came into the game with a convincing win on Thursday night against Chilhowee by 17 points. The Lady Tigers started out slowly and found themselves down 9-2 in the early going but quickly regrouped before the end of the quarter and were able to tie the score at 13-13. In the second quarter the girls tightened up their defense and were able to hold the Hornets to just 4 points and lead at the half 26-17. The second half started out much different for the Lady Tigers as a lack of good offense and turnovers allowed the Hornets back into the game and at the end of the quarter Rich Hill found their lead down just to one point with the score 30-29. In the 4th quarter both teams were determined to take the title and battled it out with neither one willing to bend. In the final minutes both teams lost valuable players and fouls and there were many trips to the free throw line. In the closing seconds Allie Taylor found Delta Johnson twice open underneath the basket for a lay up and getting some free throws sealed the game for the Tigers. The Tigers were excited to win the game and the AC tourney for the fourth year in a row.
