Courtwarming night started off with a contest between the Rich Hill JV boys and the Drexel Bobcats. The Boys had a long lay off since their last game and came out a little sluggish and found themselves trailing 7-9 after one. In the second quarter the boys didn’t have success and were down 10-15 at the half. After making some adjustments the offense finally got on track and tightened up their defense and closed the gap with the Bobcats to 21-22 at the start of the fourth quarter. Rich Hill used some full court press to start the quarter with the help of turnovers and converting them into points late in the game the boys took a two point lead and were able to pull the game out 32-30. With the win the JV’s record improved to 3-5.
Leading scorers for the Tigers were Houston Bridgewater with 10, Wyatt Hammett 7, Wyatt Foster 5, Bryce Lewis 4 and Jacob Querry,Jerry Lakey and Jamison Ogburn with 2 each.
The second game of the evening was a contest between the Lady Tigers and The Lady Bobcats. The game started out with Drexel taking an early lead of 7-2 but the Lady Tigers settled down and were able to regain ground with good offense and better defense and trailed 13-14 after one quarter. The second quarter saw the Lady Tigers explode offensively scoring 23 points against a very good defensive team. With about one second on the clock before the half the Tigers hit a half court shot for a 3 and found themselves leading 36-29 at the half. The second half the Lady Tigers never let up and were leading by as many as 13 points in the third quarter and at the end of 3 the girls lead 50-39. The final quarter both teams were determined to come out with a win and Drexel closed the gap shooting long range but with strong ball handling and rebounding the Lady Tigers came out with a win 65-57. This was the first victory over the Bobcats for the Lady Tigers in about six years. The Lady Bobcats are a very good team and the girls were extremely happy with the win. With this victory the Girls record improved to 12-4 and 2-0 in the conference.
Leading scorers for the Lady Tigers were Robin Schapeler 25, Taylor Coonce 15, Taylor Brooks 10, Allie Taylor 8 and Serena Duncan with 7.Leading rebounders Taylor Coonce 9,Robin Schapeler 7, Allie Taylor and Taylor Brooks with 6 each. The next game for the girls will be Tuesday night in the opening round of the Archie Tournament at 7:30 against the Midway Lady Vikings
The third contest of the evening for Court warming was between the varsity boys and their counter parts from Drexel. The Rich Hill Tigers were coming off their championship game at Skyline and their first home game since early January. The first quarter found the boys coming out a little flat and a determined opponent in the Bobcats leading to a low scoring frame and after one Rich Hill led 12-8. In the second quarter both team kept pace with each other scoring an Identical 14 points and the Tigers found themselves in a close game 26-22 at the half. The second half the offense finally got on track and found the Tigers getting some space over the Bobcats and led after 3 quarters 47-36. The final quarter the Tigers were able to pull farther ahead but Drexel kept putting on pressure but not giving up easily but Rich Hill was able to pull away by a final score of 66-48.
