The Rich Hill Lady Tigers met the Midway Vikings in the first round of the Archie Tournament. This would be the second meeting of these conference opponents. The Lady Tigers came out very sluggish and seemed to have trouble getting their offense going but held a 12-4 lead after one quarter. In the second frame things didn’t improve much and the Lady Vikings were able to catch up and tie the score at half time 18-18. The second half started with much more energy and the offense finally got going the defense turned it up a notch and after three quarter the Lady Tiger led 35-24. The two squads played evenly in the final quarter and the Lady Tigers won the game 48-37.
The girls advance to the semi-finals on Thursday night at 7:30 against the number one seed Adrian Blackhawks. The leading scorers for the Lady Tigers were Allie Taylor with 19, Taylor Brooks 8, Robin Schapeler and Taylor Coonce with 6 each, and Jen Doty with 5. Leading rebounder were Allie Taylor with 11 , Taylor Brooks with 8, Serena Duncan with 7. Leading Steals, was Taylor Coonce with 6 and Robin and Serena had 5 each. Taylor Coonce also had 6 assist.
The Varsity Boys also won their first round game of the Archie Tournament last night with a 76-22 win over the Hume Hornets. The Tigers proved to be too much for the Hornets early on in the contest as they got out to a quick 10 point lead. During the second quarter the Tigers put away the Hornets by scoring 30 points in the quarter while only allowing 6. More balanced scoring and good team defense helped the Tigers finish off the Hornets in the second half. The boys record on the season is now 17-0.
The Tigers will play the Adrian Blackhawks on Thursday in the semifinal round of the tournament. Game time will be 9:00 P.M.
