The Rich Hill Lady Tigers survived to play another day with a win over the Midway Vikings in last nights first round of the District 13 playoffs. In the fourth meeting between both teams the Lady Vikings came out with a determination to even the series for the year. The Lady Tigers came out slow and never could get into the flow in the opening frame and found themselves trailing 5-11. In the second quarter things didn’t improve as the offense struggled and the defense couldn’t seem to get a stop and at the half the Tigers had only scored 15 points and were trailing by 8 with the score being Midway 23 Rich Hill 15. In the second half the defense came to life, forcing several early turnovers and converting them into points closing the gap to just 3 points at the start of the fourth quarter. It was obvious that both teams were determined to keep their seasons alive and there was a lot of back a forth action to take the lead. Late in the fourth quarter Rich Hill was able to tie the score just to see Midway retake the lead. The defense stepped up and forced some important turnovers and then the game became a battle of free throws. With the Lady Tigers hitting a free throw with about five seconds left the defense forced a turnover to seal the victory. In the end, free throws were the margin of victory for Rich Hill. Rich Hill shot 19 of 31 from the line and Midway hit 17-29. In the Victory the Lady Tiger’s bench played an important role by playing tough defense and running the offense to get scoring opportunities for their team mates.
