Thursday, September 8, 2016 Rich Hill vs. Pleasanton Blu-Jays

On Thursday night, the Rich Hill Lady Tigers hosted the Pleasanton Blu-Jays.  The JV Tigers started the night off with a well-played game! They defeated the Blu-Jays in two sets.  In the first set, both teams were able to keep the score really tight.  The Blu-Jays began to pull away, but the Tigers were able to fight back and win the set 26-24.  In the second set, the Tigers managed to keep up with the Blu-Jays all the way through the game and ended up with a 25-23 victory to ensure a victory on the night!  Brittany Mitchell led the team in Ace Serves with 4 total.  Dezirae Fuqua led the team in passing percentage. Mackenzie Wheatley and Krissy Miller led the team with 2 kills a piece.

Next came the Varsity match! The Lady Tigers started off the night with a well fought game. Both teams battled back and forth gaining and losing one or two points at a time.  Then, each team went on its own rally streak. Unfortunately those streaks just were not enough for Rich Hill, and they fell to the Blu-Jays 21-25 in the first match.  The next set began and Rich Hill seemed determined to come back into the game. They played good defense and had some great attacks at the net!  They played a good game, but were unable to come out with a win to go to the third set. The Blu-Jays defeated the Tigers 25-20 to win the match.  Serena Duncan led the team in kills with 4 on the night.  Serena Duncan also led the team in Ace Serves with 3.  Allie Schmitt led the team with the highest passing percentage.

 

Saturday, September 10, 2016 Rich Hill at the JV Tournament in Oceola

On Saturday, September 10, 2016, the Rich Hill JV Tigers traveled to Osceola to compete in a JV Tournament. In the first match of the game, the Tigers faced Stockton.  After having a slow start in the first match, the Tigers found their momentum to get them going.  They played well against Stockton, but fell in two sets (15-25 and 21-25).  Krissy Miller and Destiny Long led the team in Ace Serves with 2 each.  Brittany Mitchell and Kellie Hagge led the team in kills with 2 each.

In the second match of the day, the Tigers faced Clinton.  In the first set, the Tigers came out strong and defeated the Cardinals 25-15.  Although they played well and had some good volleys, the Tigers could not keep their momentum and lost the second set 17-25.  Kellie Hagge, Krissy Miller, and Mackenzie Wheatley tied for the highest Ace Serves with 2 each.  Mackenzie Wheatley led the team with the highest passing percentage.  Kellie Hagge led the team in kills with 5 in the match.

Next, the Tigers faced Lakeland.  The Tigers played a very good game to come up with a win against the Vikings.  The Tigers had some great net play, allowing for some great hits and blocks.  The Tigers defeated Lakeland 25-19 in the first set and 25-22 in the second set.  Kellie Hagge led the team in Ace Serves with 3 and also led with the highest passing percentage.  Krissy Miller led the team in kills with a total of 2 in the games.

With the 3-3 record at the end of pool play, the Rich Hill Tigers found themselves in the Championship Bracket.  They had definitely earned that spot!  The first game of bracket play had the Tigers playing Green Ridge.  In the first set, the Tigers played well and found themselves in a tight game until the very end when they lost to Green Ridge 20-25.  In the second set, the Tigers attempted to gain the momentum back with little adjustments and some great digs and volleys! It just was not quite enough and the Tigers fell to Green Ridge 19-25 to end their play in the tournament.

Overall, the Lady Tigers had a very good outing in Osceola ending the day as one of the top 4 teams in the tournament. The girls are ready to face their next opponent on Tuesday in Sheldon!
