RH Tiger Football vs. Drexel

The varsity football team traveled to Drexel this past Friday evening.  After trailing 8-0 early in the first quarter, Rich Hill responded with an 8 play scoring drive capped off with a 1 yard QB run for the TD by sophomore Taron Mumma. The extra point attempt was no good.

Drexel responded with their second score going up 16-6. Rich Hill’s next possession was an 11 play drive, which stalled out inside the Drexel 10 yard line. The Tiger defense stopped the Bobcats on a 4th down play inside their 10 and got the ball back.

The ensuing 9 play drive resulted in another Taron Mumma TD run of 1 yard. The conversion attempt was no good. Score 16-12 at half.

Drexel took their second half opening drive down for a score.  2 point run was good. Score was 24-12. After a Tiger interception, the Bobcats had another long drive, but the defense stopped them on a 4th down play and got the ball back. The second play from scrimmage was an extremely well executed screen pass to Jacob Querry who took the pass to the outside and turned on the after burners going 85 yards to the house. The 2 point run by Taron Mumma was good. The score stood at 24-20 heading into the 4th quarter.

On 4th and 2, just inside their 40 yard line, the Bobcats line up to go for it. They have a penalty and after moving back 5 yards they still go for it and the Tigers stop them from making the first down.  With great field position inside the Drexel 35 yard line the Rich Hill offense only took 3 plays to score. A 36 yard bomb from Taron to Jordan Bolser, who had to go up over the defender to snag an incredible catch, in the endzone gave the Tigers the lead for the first time in the game, 26-24. The 2 point try was no good.

Drexel takes the ensuing kickoff down the field for a touchdown and a lead change. Score 32-26.

On the first play, after the kickoff, Taron was stripped of the ball and Drexel recovered deep in Tiger territory. Several plays later they had scored again. With a 2 point conversion they lead 40-26.

The next offensive possession went nowhere as there were a couple mishandlings of the ball and the Tigers turned it over on downs. The following defensive series was halted by an injury to a Tiger’s player. Because it was a back pain, caution was used and they removed him from the field on a back board. While the player was down, people from both teams circled in the area to show support for the well being of the injured player. When play resumed, Drexel ran into the end zone and made the 2 point conversion to make it 48-26.

The Tiger’s then put in some JV players and Drexel matched them. Rich Hill drove the length of the field to score. They missed the 2 point conversion putting the final score at 48-32.

Coach Wolfe said after the game, “Drexel’s offense is a grind. They just keep running at you with a lot of bodies out front.” “Our defense made some nice stops on 4th down.”

“We had some big plays in the passing game with over 300 yards through the air.”

“Our guys played extremely hard, but a few miscues in the second half made a big difference.”

Senior night is Friday at home with the Tigers facing off against the Midway Vikings.
