Veteran’s Day Assembly 2016

The Rich Hill R-IV students and staff hosted an assembly to honor veteran’s today.  FFA president Kylann Tourtillott welcomed veterans in attendance followed by the presentation of the American flag by Jamison Ogburn the FFA Vice-President.

Mr. Doug Abend, Mr. Larnal Martin, Mrs. Katie Haines, Mrs. Melody Mullins, and Mrs. Katie Curtwright sang the Star Spangled Banner.

 

The junior high and high school band came together to perform “A Celebration of Taps” following the Pledge Allegiance.

Students continued to honor the veterans with “America, Of Thee I Sing” performed by the elementary chorus.

Mr. Joseph Curtright, a veteran of the United States Navy came forward to share a few words about military service and honoring our veterans.  He stated that EVERYONE who took the oath to protect and serve is a veteran even though many of them go unnoticed. Veterans do not have to be the most decorated members to be important.  Mr. Curtright is the husband of vocal teacher Mrs. Katie Curtright.

The 5/6 Elementary Choir performed “I Hear America Singing” by Thomas follow by “Under Liberty’s Bright Light” by Beery performed by the high school mixed chorus.

The assembled crowd then sat back to view a video that compiled many clips honoring the veterans of military service here in the United States.

To conclude the assembly Mrs. Katie Haines played Taps as students left the gym.

Veterans then gathered for a photograph before gathering in the auditorium for a meal prepared by the faculty and staff.  Retired teacher Rhonda Headley asked the blessing on the meal.  Members of the senior class served as ambassadors today welcoming guests and assisting them as needed.
