First Round Win for Girls

In the first round of the Archie tournament the Lady Tigers met the Lady Drexel Bobcats for the second time this year. The game started out slowly for both teams with offense hard to come by. At the end of the first quarter Rich Hill held a small lead of 8-5. In the Second quarter the Lady Bobcats took the lead and would not relinquish that lead until late in the game. Both offenses picked up  a little and at the half the score was RH 18 and Drexel 19. In the third quarter the offense for Rich Hill completely shut off with only two free throws to show for their effort while Drexel scored 8 for a lead of 27-20. The fourth quarter did not start well as the Lady Bobcats scored the first two point of the final frame taking a 9 point lead. The way the Lady Tigers offense had been going the outcome did not look good. The Tigers found themselves in deep foul trouble and having to shuffle their bench in and out to keep the right balance on the floor. With about 4 minutes left the Tigers defense came to life and the offense took advantage of several key turnovers to draw closer to the Bobcats. With less than two minutes left the Lady Tiger were able to draw close just to see the Bobcats able to regain the lead. In the final minute with the score tied Drexel was able to take a 2 point lead with about 10 seconds left. After calling a timeout and discussing their options Rich Hill worked the ball inside to tie the game but with the defense collapsing in the middle the girls found their shooter on the outside of the 3 point line and got a good pass to her. With six seconds left the Lady Tigers took a open trey and drained it to take a one point lead. Drexel took a timeout and their shot at the win but Rich Hill was able to hold on for the one point win. In the final frame the girls scored 19 points and hit 3 3’s to help overcome the lead of the Bobcats. With the win girls advance to the semi final round to face either Archie or Butler at 7:30on Thursday night. The Lady Tigers improve their record to 11-6 for the season.
