1st Round District Win for Girls

Monday night the Lady Tigers took on the the Lady Bulldogs from Liberal in the first round of the District 13 playoff action. This was the 4-5 match up and was expected to be a close contest. These two teams had met early in the year with the Lady Bulldogs winning easily at LIberal 53-36. With both teams hoping to extend their seasons they came out a little tight with neither team able to put much distant between each other. The Lady Tigers were able to get just a little more offense and lead 10-6 after the first quarter. The second quarter looked pretty much like the first frame and at the half the Lady Tigers lead 19-14. In the second half both teams were able to pick up the offense. In the first half there was only one free throw shot by either team but free throws would prove to be the different in the game. The Lady Bulldogs started the second half with 10-2 run and looked like they might be able to break the game open. With the score 24-21 Tigers regrouped and started to put their offense in motion. The Lady Tigers got more aggressive on defense and were able to create turnovers that lead to points which was good but even more helpful was they got aggressive going to the basket and were able to convert those fouls into more points. In the third quarter the girls were 5-5 from the charity stripe. At the end of the third quarter the girls lead 34-29. The fourth quarter the Lady Tigers were patient in running their offense looking for the best shot and played good defense. The Lady Bulldogs pressured by time went into a full court press which the Tigers were able to handle fairly well but did create some anxious moments bringing the ball up court.Keeping calm every time Liberal scored the Tigers came back up court and ran their offense to either score or get fouled. The Tigers proved the old saying, Free Throws win games, at one point the Lady Tigers hit 15 free throws in a row. The Tigers for the game sent 5 players to the line with four of them being perfect and the other hitting a very high percentage. LIberal had their chances at the end of the game but the Tiger defense was able to rise to the occasion and win the game 49-44. The Tigers advance to the semi finals on Wednesday night at 6:00 against the number one seed Adrian Blackhawks who earlier in the evening advanced with a win over Appleton City. The Lady Tigers improved their record to 14-12 for the season.

The girls finished their night at the Free Throw line hitting 16-19 for an 82 % .
