Another Win for Varsity Boys

On Thursday night the Rich Hill Tigers traveled to Adrian for the second round of the WEMO conference tournament against the Adrian Blackhawks. The Tigers were looking to advance to the Championship on Saturday night but playing the Blackhawks is alway a tall challenge even without a Championship slot on the line. With alot of people stilling wondering what type of team the Tigers were there was some anticipation of what the outcome would be. The Tigers tried to answer that question early in the game when they came out on fire offensively and defensively shutting the Adrian team down. After the first quarter the Tigers lead 18-6. In the second quarter the Tigers pull out to a twenty point lead but the Blackhawks showed signs of coming to life and at the half the Tigers found themselves leading 35-17. The second half started out much differently with Adrian making some nice runs and several of the Tigers spending considerable time on the bench in foul trouble. At the end of three the Tigers still maintained a 13 point lead. In the third quarter the Blackhawks offensively broke loose and had the Tigers on their heels the whole quarter. In the quarter Adrian outscored the Tigers 25-12 and tied the game to go into overtime. In the fourth quarter the Tigers had their chances but free throws failed to fall so it was to overtime they went. Early in the overtime the Tigers had a key member foul out but the bench never wavered all night long. The Tigers found themselves in trouble half way thru and trailing by five points. The resolve of the boys on this night was never to give in and as the overtime period came to a close both teams found themselves still tied. In the second overtime the teams traded baskets but with about thirty seconds left the Tigers buried a trey from the left corner to take a three point lead. Adrian came down trying to tie the score but the shoot missed the mark and Rich Hill was able -to gather in the rebound and hold off the team from Adrian to win the game 75-71. It was quite a game for the fans and players alike. The Boys now advance to the Championship game on Saturday night against the Lakeland Vikings the number one seed of the tournament at 7 PM. The Tigers finished the night with five players in double figures in scoring and are now 3-0 in the young season.
