Varsity Boys vs. Lockwood

The Rich Hill Tigers took to the hardwood floor on Friday night to take on the Lockwood
Tigers. The Tigers were looking to get back on the winning track after a tough loss at
KC Lutheran on Monday night. The week had been filled with the usual Court Warming
activities but the Varsity boys went undistracted and were ready to play. In the first few
moments the Lockwood boys came out on fire and jumped to an early 8-2. With a
timely time out by Coach Moles the boys got back on track defensively and were able to
close the gap at the end of one quarter of play with Lockwood leading 21-19. The
second frame saw both teams struggle with foul trouble. Rich Hill went cold from the
field and some untimely turnovers hurt the boys before half time. With just a second
left on the clock Lockwood launched a half-court shot that found it’s mark and the boys
found themselves trailing 27-35. In the third quarter foul trouble remained a problem
for both teams. They played even most of the time during the third and Rich Hill was
able to gain a point on their opponents with it being 50-43 in the third quarter. The
fourth quarter didn’t start like the boys would have liked and at one point during the
quarter found themselves down by 14 points. At that point the team kicked it into a
different gear and kept chipping away at Lockwood’s lead a basket at a time. With
about one minute left Lockwood seemed to have survived but the Rich Hill Tigers
wouldn’t give up and closed the gap to within a bucket but a missed shot allowed
Lockwood to travel down the court one more time to extend the lead back to five and
with time running out the boys hit a last second shot to make the final score Rich Hill
Tiger 62 Lockwood Tigers 64.
The Rich Hill boys have never given up in this young season and have fought to the end
in each game. They keep improving in several areas and have as good as attitudes as
you would want. Their record is now 1-2 with their next action coming on Tuesday
night at Appleton City in the WEMO Conference tournament at 7:30 against the Liberal
Bulldogs. The Tigers are seeded 6 th in this year’s action.
Scoring against Lockwood found Rich Hill with six players scoring with five of them in
double figures
