Varsity Boys vs. Liberal WEMO Tournament

On Tuesday the Rich Hill Varsity Boys traveled to Appleton City for the first round of the WEMO Conference tournament. Their opponent would be the Liberal Bulldogs.  This year was the first year that the tournament  had expanded to a 10 team field. In this first round action the Tigers would be the lower seed at 6 with LIberal the 3rd seed. Both teams came into the game with only one win each in the early season. In the early going offense was hard to come by for both teams and with four minutes gone in the quarter the score was 4-0 Liberal. Early turn overs hurt the Tigers but they would be a part of this game all night long. As the first frame came to a close the Tigers found themselves trailing  5-10. The pressure defense of Liberal continued to cause problems in the second quarter which never allowed the boys to get in an offense flow. At the half Rich Hill was trailing 21-13. A few moments into the second half the Tigers hit a trey and close the gap to just five points but were able to only score one more field goal in the quarter and watched the lead grow to 28-18. In the fourth the Tigers were able to generate a little more offense and score 10 points but turnovers continued to plague the team and as the time ran down the final score became the Rich Hill Tigers 28 Liberal Bulldogs 41.

It was tough night for the team with almost as many shots taken as they had turnovers. Even with the night not turning out the way they hope they keep growing as a unit with improvement being seen by the coaching staff. Their record fell to 1-3 for the season. The team will return to the tournament on Wednesday night for a late 9:00 PM game against the Archie Whirlwinds who had fell to the Adrian Blackhawks in the late game Tuesday.
